WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR ECG TESTING?

Candidates for an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) at MedNorth Kalispell Urgent Care Clinic typically include men and women who:

  • Are experiencing chest pain, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, or shortness of breath
  • Are experiencing an irregular heartbeat
  • Are overweight or obese
  • Have a family history of heart disease
  • Have diabetes
  • Have hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Have high cholesterol
  • Have lifestyle risk factors, such as smoking

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM AN ECG?

Before we start an ECG, we will first decide whether you should be visiting an emergency room for more emergent care. If we don’t feel this is the case, we can proceed with an ECG at our office. ECGs are painless tests that measure the electrical activity of an individual’s heart. This test will show if a person’s heart is functioning properly. Using cutting-edge technology, we’ll attach patches to your arms, legs, and chest that will send your activity levels to our electrocardiograph, which will be recorded on screen and/or paper. The peaks and valleys on the report will help Drs. Hill and Rundle interpret the activity of your heart and whether or not it’s functioning properly. Depending on the results of your test, we may suggest you seek out specialized treatment from a nearby medical facility.
